Shuntae Williams’ Testimony


My name is Shuntae Williams and I am from South Bend, Indiana. I heard the Weigh Down message about overweight on November 10, 2001 at a weekend conference; I'll probably never forget the date and the impact that the information had on my life has forever changed me. I didn't even realize when I arrived that I was still overweight, since I am just over 5'9" and was happy at 161 pounds, as I've always been good at hiding my weight, or so I thought. However, I surprised to see how easily I lost another twenty pounds through the Weigh Down Workshop, and how unnecessary and harmful that extra weight was.

From the invitation of a couple of friends I went to hear Gwen Shamblin, the founder of the Weigh Down Workshop, speak in 2001 and by the lunch break I was already putting the principles into practice. I was evaluating my hunger and making sure I was truly hungry. I shared a sub sandwich with a friend instead of ordering a whole one for myself, even saving part of my half because I recognized I was comfortably full. WOW! Throughout the next week I started on the videos from Weigh Down Advanced and immediately lost six pounds; I was peaceful and so happy that GOD had given me this teaching.

Earlier that year I had cried out to GOD that I didn't want to be sick (I work at a hospital, but at the age of twenty-six I had never needed to be treated in a hospital as a patient or stay in a hospital). My eyes were opening to the number of stroke patients that come into my department and how they were getting younger and younger. I could not figure out why in this rich country with public and private healthcare and all the food we need, why there were so many sick people. I had began to cut meat and bread almost completely out of my diet, thinking that they were causing overweight and the number of diseases (stroke, diabetes, heart attack, hypertension) that are associated with being overweight. But eventually, I'd even seen and known adult lifelong vegetarians who were overweight and have also stroked.

The Weigh Down message brought the key: eat less food = consumption of less fat, cholesterol, sugar.....less calories that your body can't use up in a day = the perfect weight and a balanced diet. Living and eating this way has brought a great peace over me, as I no longer worry about "harmful fats," "empty calories," or farming pesticides. There is no such thing as "junk food" as I now realize that everything in small amounts is useful to the body because GOD has so brilliantly designed the body to break it down. And I still have not had ONE SINGLE SICK DAY FROM WORK, and I believe I am the picture of great health by enjoying eating, drinking, and living by GOD's design. I am so thankful to Gwen Shamblin and the Weigh Down Workshop for showing me the way!
