Just as dieting does not help your heart desire less food, neither does exercising! Exercise does have virtue for physical fitness; there is no substitute for exercise when it comes to muscle toning and cardiovascular conditioning.

The Bible states in 1 Timothy 4:8, "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the future life to come." We certainly believe that physical exercise has value for keeping the body healthy and active, but we do not believe that exercise should be forced for the sole purpose of working off the calories and food that you keep forcing into your body.

It is very tempting to overeat and then compensate by walking around the block 10 times. You might be forcing yourself to exercise to burn off calories, but you are dreaming of food the whole time! How many times have you told yourself as you walked on the treadmill, "Great, that’s 300 calories-that’s a candy bar! Oooo, now I’m at 500 calories, I can eat a piece of pie tonight! Wow, that’s 1000 calories - that’s two pieces tonight!" This focus and anticipation only leads you to binge eat later, telling yourself that it’s okay because you did your exercise.

So what do you do? We are going to find your natural, God-given hunger and fullness cues. In Weigh Down, the only exercise God requires is surrendering your will to His perfect system of hunger and fullness. Once you pay attention to only that-with no distractions-you will be able to sense when your body might need to get out and move those muscles to keep them fit and tone. You will lose the weight permanently and no longer be dependent upon forced exercise routines.
